How long do veneers last?

If you are considering the natural look of veneers to enhance your smile, you may be wondering how long you can expect your veneers to last.

A quick primer on veneers

Veneers are for anyone who wants to beautify their smile by covering up tooth imperfections. Many people whose teeth are broken, discolored, or crooked opt for veneers.

Veneers are made out of different materials such as porcelain and composite. Each of these materials has its own benefits with different price points and durability. Veneers are not a permanent solution and on average, you can expect to replace your veneers in about ten years, according to the American Dental Association. With proper care and maintenance, some veneers can last even longer than that.

How much do veneers cost?

Veneers made out of different materials vary in cost. As a rule of thumb, composite veneers are less expensive than porcelain veneers, but they don’t last as long.

How long do composite veneers last

Composite veneers are made of resin that is matched to the exact color of your teeth. On average, composite veneers last an average of eight years and are more prone to staining and chipping than other options.

Composite veneers cost less

Composite veneers are the most cost-effective solution available today. On average, you can expect to pay anywhere from $1,000 – $1,500 per tooth for composite veneers. This cost varies by location, dentist and insurance coverage.

Porcelain veneers are more durable and last longer

Porcelain veneers are the most widely requested type of veneer in cosmetic dentistry for a few reasons. They most closely resemble the beauty of a natural smile, in addition to being extremely durable and stain-resistant. Porcelain veneers can also remain in place for two to three times longer as composite. This is because porcelain is a biocompatible material that naturally adheres to your DNA to form an actual bond with the body. So with proper care, porcelain veneers can last 15, 20 or even 30 years.

Porcelain veneers are more expensive than composite veneers, but they last a lot longer. The price pre tooth averages $2,000 – $2,500, depending on your location, dentist and insurance coverage.
