How does Invisalign® work?

Invisalign aligners are an alternative to braces that straighten teeth and fix mild bite issues, but how do they work?

First, Dr. Frahm diagnoses your needs for orthodontic care. Then, we share our treatment plan with you. We send your treatment plan to Invisalign upon your approval. The folks at Invisalign custom-make plastic mouthpieces. The clear, plastic mouth pieces called aligners, fit over your teeth to reposition them. You’re given new aligners every few weeks. Your Invisalign aligners gradually and gently guide your teeth into their new position.

Who benefits the most from Invisalign?

Invisalign aligners are a great option if you don’t have complicated spacing or crowding issues. They also work well for mild and moderate bite corrections and for people who only require minor teeth straightening. Invisalign enhances the function and health of your mouth, closing gaps and aligning your bite.

The Invisalign system is a straightforward three-step process

Step 1:

Dr. Frahm uses a specially designed scanner to take a precise, 3D image of your mouth and jaw. After studying the images, Dr. Frahm develops a custom treatment plan. The plan shows you how the Invisalign system can move your teeth, close gaps, and align your bite.

Step 2:

To begin, you come to our office and Dr. Frahm fits your aligner. You’ll wear your first set of Invisalign for one to two weeks and for 20 to 22 hours every day.

Step 3:

You’ll have follow-up visits with Dr. Frahm about every couple of weeks until treatment is complete.

How long will I have to wear Invisalign?

Invisalign aligners work relatively quickly, and you’ll start to see results in just a few weeks. For the full treatment to take effect, most people wear Invisalign aligners for a total of six to 24 months. The amount of treatment time depends on the amount of correction needed, and if you have more complex spacing or bite issues.

When can I remove my aligners?

Aligners must be worn all day long for the best results. However, there are certain times when your aligners must be removed, including when you are:
